Funeral Card Friday

Julia/Julianna Schulc Rybczynska

This card comes from the collection of my boyfriend's mother, Bev.  This is the funeral card for her Great-Grandmother.  Her ancestry is Polish, mostly through Buffalo, New York.  As you can see, the card is all in Polish.  Bev can read some Polish and told me that the death date was Jan 20, 1924

Another interesting factoid: Polish surnames take on masculine and feminine.  Julianna's husband was Martin Rybcynski while Julianna was Julianna Rybcynska.  I find that very interesting.

Those Places Thursday

Rockefellar Center

December 2008

This is also the first time Bryon told me that he loved me.

It was the day of the New York State Young Republicans Holiday Dinner.  Bryon came down from Albany and I came down from Maine.  We toured the city.  We had been dating for 4 and a half months but I was adamant that I was not going to say "I love you" first.  It was such a big deal and it makes me smile since we are much freer about saying we love each other now.

I apologize ahead of time but until I get back to Maine to visit my parents, most photos will be of my cousin Heather's wedding.

I am second on the right.

Those Places Friday: Mahars Public Bar, Albany, NY

Mahar's Public Bar-Albany, NY

Bryon and I went here on our first date and we usually go every week or so.  It's awesome.  They have beer from all over the world and you have a number.  You punch your number into a computer and a list generates of all the beer you haven't tried.  When you have had 50 beers, you get a t-shirt, 125 you get your own mug.  Bryon is closing in on 500 and at 500 you get your name on the wall.

Bryon and I after the St. Andrews Society Robert Burns Dinner.

Happy Birthday Papa!

We miss you!

Happy Anniversary!

What better way to have a Wedding Wednesday than wishing my parents a Happy 38th Wedding Anniversary?  I guess a picture but I don't have one on hand

Matrilineal Monday

I am going to focus my first Matrilineal Monday post on the first female in my life-my mother, Jeanne Crowley.

The above picture was taken at the Grand Canyon in 2006

My mother is half Irish (County Cork and County Galway) through her father and half Acadian French through her mother.

She was born in Woburn, MA, the second daughter and third child of John Timothy Crowley and Edna Margaret Roche.  She was educated at St. Charles Catholic School.  She married my father, Daniel Patrick Sullivan, Jr. in 1973 in Woburn, MA and had two children, my older brother Danny and myself (duh!)

My mother worked various secretarial jobs before she retired.  She looks forward to when my father retires so they can RV around the US.  She loves dogs, genealogy (but I do the work,) reading,  ghost stories and anything supernatrual.  She never considered herself Republican until 2000 but voted Republican the whole time.*

*This is not a political blog.  I have another blog for that.  I will not be ranting about politics here unless they impact genealogy such as laws that cut off access to records, etc.  However, my family is a political family so sometimes facts may come up or photos at political events may come up in this blog.  In fact, I look forward to a post when I can talk about my Grandma Sullivan and my political arguments.
